Boeing 747-128

Boeing 747-128

Boeing 747-128 | William "Billy" Bishop, VC

CNA's fourth Boeing 747-100 was this aircraft, named after World War One flying Ace Billy Bishop. This aircraft was delivered in 1973 and was the first 747 for Canadian National to not have an upstairs lounge, but instead hosting a luxurious first class section.

This aircraft is painted in CNA's new livery, which made it's debut in 1986. Dropping the "National" from the livery, it featured bilingual titles, with Canadien written on the right side of the fuselage, and of course featured Canada's new flag, adopted in 1965.

It's also shown ferrying a 5th engine on this trip, something the early 747s were able to do.

The 747 fleet operated mostly from Toronto and Vancouver, serving destinations in Japan, England and France. During winter, these aircraft could be seen making the occasional weekend trip to the Caribbean, supplementing the VC10s and 707s bringing people to warmer weather.

This was the last 747-100 to be retired, in 1998. It's maintained at the Canadian Air and Space museum in Ottawa, in this livery.
