AsiaJet Airways A320-100 Livery (1988)

AsiaJet Airways's 1st A320-100 livery.

Founded in 1988, AsiaJet Airways was a government owned full service carrier with scheduled flights to destinations around Southeast Asia. The airline was originally founded to create more competition in the local airline sector. It once competed with local flag carrier, Singapore Airlines, operating flights to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, with its main focus on business travelers traveling to Asia for work and leisure. It prides itself for its Asian inspired in-flight service, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere for all passengers.

However, in 1997, the financial crisis hit the Asia pacific region hard, and business travelers weren't traveling that much anymore. This heavily affected AsiaJet Airways, which saw a significant drop in ticket sales. In 1998, the airline has racked up huge debts and is loosing money. After failing to secure funds from the government, in 1999, Asian Investment Group (now renamed Value Aviation Group), decides to buy over the airline, for $1, in hopes of turning it into Asia's low-cost airline of choice. Retaining the original AsiaJet name, the airline under its new owner started to transition from a full-service carrier to an ultra low-cost airline.

Then why is the registration AJ-XXX?

    shouldn't it be 9V-XXX, HS-XXX, 9M-XXX, RP-C3201, JA20AJ, or VT-XXX?

Yep thats true. The registration is just a placeholder and is not meant to represent any country code and registration (normally for special liveries and such I will update the reg). Technically it shld be 9V-XXX but this livery was done a while back so did not have the files to change it haha. Prolly will update it with an actual reg real soon : )
