In 1993, Global Airlines was still operating 42 Douglas DC-9-30s taken over from its purchase of West Coast Air and full original 727 fleet of 26 aircraft. When the new livery was introduced in 1994, all 727s were repainted, however at the same time the capacity increase opportunity presented by newly-delivered A320s allowed the airline to start the process of retiring its DC-9s, so by 1998 the subfleet was down to just 10 aircraft - it was planned to stay at this level for some time, to support what was expected to be a period of significant growth. Also in 1998, 727s began to be gradually retired. However, with the sudden downturn experienced by the industry after 9/11, the full remaining fleets of DC-9s and 727s were quickly dumped by Global Airlines. By 2003, the mainline narrowbody fleet stood at 126 737-300s, 32 737-500s (also already in the process of being retired), 91 757-200s, 82 A320s, and 30 A319s (with more of both types due for delivery).
