Peruviana operated the Boeing 737-300 from 1991 until its restructuring in 2010 when it was replaced by the A319. The aircraft were relatively new at the time Peruviana introduced them and the airline's management had high hopes that the economy would improve during the political reign of Peruvian President Fujimori. Unfortunately, political turmoil and a series of aviation accidents caused the airline to struggle during the 1990s and early 2000s. The airline had to cease all flights to the USA during the late 1990s due to safety concerns, although by 1999 services to the USA were renewed using leased Boeing 757 aircraft.
