First delivered in 1978, the addition of the larger Boeing 727-200 enabled Texas Air Lines to subsidize it's trunk routes already flown by the Douglas DC-10 from Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston with more daily flights, generally flying the early morning or late evening flights. The 727-200 would also pick up it's own select routes from Austin and San Antonio to places such as Los Angeles, Miami and New York City.
Operating a total of 28, the 727 would remain a mainstay of the fleet until the introduction of the 737-400 in 1993. The last 727-200 flew in 1994, ending the 727s tenure at the airline.
N722TX is named for the City of Conroe, Texas, where the airlines' first headquarters was operated before moving south to Downtown Houston.
This livery is absolutely beautiful. The bright blue is fantastic. I can just imagine these birds shining in the Texas sun...
