6. Texas Air Lines Douglas DC-10-30 "1976-1991"

The DC-10-30 arrived on property in 1979 with the goal of adding nonstops to Hawaii from it's hubs in Houston and Dallas. They were intended to replace the stopovers in Los Angeles that the airline had operated since the introduction of the original DC-10-10 and Boeing 747-100. A total of 10 DC-10-30s were operated by Texas Air Lines, bringing the total DC-10 count to 21. Service to Toronto, Mexico City, Bogota and Caracas were also introduced with the DC-10-30, and the airline briefly operated Houston to Paris before retreating from the European market due to competing pressure from rival Vanguard Airlines. After the retirement of the DC-10-10 in 1995 and the 747-100 in 1996, the DC-10-30s were recalled to domestic trunk service, and the Boeing 757 took over much of the airlines large international routes. Hawaii would return to an LAX stopover flight with the retirement of the DC-10 in 2005, an issue that the airline struggles with in the present day.

N486TX is named for the City of Midland, Texas.
