2010s-present: New business model

2010s-present: New business model

The loss of cross-strait passengers from Taiwan meant Macau Airways had to shift its business model to attract more leisure travellers to its route network, given the greater potential for growth in this market segment as opposed to business travellers who once formed the core of the airline's most frequent flyers. In addition to a greater focus on point-to-point traffic, Macau Airways worked in collaboration with the Macau Government Tourism Office to market its hub as Asia's entertainment and gambling centre, a strategy that so far has proven successful as new casinos, luxury hotels, and shopping centres continue to spring up in Macau. In spite of this progress, the airline nonetheless still faces some challenges when it comes to growth.

Throughout the 2010s, Macau Airways has focused primarily on expanding service in mainland China, its largest passenger market, although the airline has also looked to expansion in Japan in the later part of the decade. New routes to Shenyang and Wenzhou would be launched respectively in 2013 and 2019, whereas routes to Fukuoka, Osaka, and Tokyo saw weekly frequency increases in 2018.

2019 also marked the debut of a radical new livery with the introduction of the Airbus A320neo to the fleet. This is the first branding change since the airline's inception in 1994.
