Dutch Royal Airways is a large dutch airline starting a few years after the nations flag carrier by a dutch businessman and aviator. Surviving generations of leadership and struggle spending its early years as the underdog of the small dutch aviation market although slowly gaining traction with beneficial partnerships with airlines like Air Crimson in the 1980's leading it to be one of the original airlines in the Aloft Alliance. Today the airline operates 150 aircraft with over 200 destinations around the world.

PH-BVP is the first of ten airbus A330-300 delivered to the airline in the late 90's. To fly besides their slowly growing MD-11 fleet. The A330-300 proved to be a major success within the airline with its flexibility with routes. PH-BVP took its first flight as a DRA aircraft on March 5 1997 from Amsterdam to New York as RA 495.
