airLanka Airbus A340-300 | 4R-AMD

Since 1946, airLanka (under previous names) has been Sri Lanka's flag carrier, carrying the flag from its base in Colombo to cities across Africa, Australia, Asia, and Europe. In 1948, Air Ceylon began flights to London with two Douglas DC-4s, stopping in Bombay (Mumbai), Karachi, Cairo, and Rome along its thirty-seven hour journey. 50 years later, airLanka received its first Airbus A340-300, flying the same route non-stop in a mere eleven hours and twenty-five minutes.
