In 2009, the BritJet group founded it first spin-off carrier - BritExpress. Originally based in Liverpool and Manchester with five ATR 72-200s, it quickly expanded, taking deliveries of six more ATR 72s in 2010, and buying bankrupt carrier Gaelic Airways the same year, assimilating its fleet of nine Saab 340Bs and five Saab 2000s (the 737s flown by Gaelic Airways were sold off to other carriers). By late 2010 BritExpress was operating out of Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, however the carrier still had very little market share in the south of Britain.
