5. Texas Air Lines Douglas DC-10-10 "1965-1976"

In conjunction with the Boeing 747, Texas Air Lines places orders for large, widebody jets in the early 1970s to serve the exponential demand within the State of Texas and the Texas air market, which was the fastest growing in the nation for several decades. The Douglas DC-10 replaced most of the routes previously served by the Boeing 707, and inaugurated new services to Honolulu and Anchorage via Los Angeles and Seattle, respectively. Texas DC-10s were common sights along intra-Texas routes between Houston and San Antonio, Houston and Dallas, and Dallas and San Antonio, forging the airlines' Texas Triangle of short distance widebody flights. The DC-10-10 was retired in 1999, but the DC-10-30 continued to serve until 2005. Both types were replaced by the Boeing 757-200.

DC-10-10 N402TX is named after China Grove, a town outside San Antonio in Bexar County.
