4. Texas Air Lines 727-100 "1965-1976"

In the mid 1960s, Texas Air Lines opted to expand it's jet service offerings by adding the Boeing 727, Boeing's replacement for aging piston airliners. 727s arrived on property in Houston in July of 1965. Dubbed the "Pamper Jet," the 727 offered a unique experience in a budding jet-age, giving smaller cities the ability to fly on a comfortable and stylish new jet. Texas Air Lines' first 727 service flew from Houston to Albuquerque, New Mexico, a route previously flown by the Convair 580. The airline would later order the Boeing 727-200 in 1978, a stretched version of the original 727. A total of 63 727 airplanes were operated by the airline, making it the bulk of the fleet for more than 2 decades.

Texas Air Lines 727s were famous for flying to dirt strips across Mexico, hauling cargo and passengers from it's hubs in Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston. The 727 allowed the airline to rapidly expand it's Mexican destination network, becoming the carrier with the most destinations in Mexico post deregulation in 1978.

N703TX is named for the City of Galveston, Texas.
