TransWest Airways | McDonnell Douglas MD-80 | 1980-1999

As a DC-9 operator, TransWest was one of the first airlines to jump at the opportunity offered by the MD-80 (DC-9-80). the -80s enabled the airline to expand its network on the U.S. West Coast and compete more effectively against larger carriers. Although the DC-9s were retired in the late 80s/early 90s, the MD-80s soldiered on alongside the 737 until both were replaced by the A320 series in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
