Global Metrolink continued to expand in the early 90s with the addition of two more contract carriers. The first was ExcelAir, with its fleet of eleven Beechcraft 1900Ds flying throughout the Northeast, mostly focused on the smallest of communities. The idea behind this expansion in the region was the creation of a mini-hub model, where passengers could, for example, take a Saab 340 from Altoona, Pennsylvania to Syracuse, New York, then a B1900D from there to Watertown, New York, all while bypassing the longer connection times and more expensive tickets at large hubs like Philadelphia, JFK, or LaGuardia. While from a passenger's perspective this seemed like a route through a much smaller hub, in reality any airport with Global Metrolink service to more than one destination could be used for a connection, making virtually any routing, even the most random like Rutland, Vermont to Hamilton, New York via Rome, New York, possible.

On the other side of the country, Springair - with a fleet of fourteen Embraer Brasilias - was contracted to offer the Global Metrolink service on the west coast, mostly around California, focused in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. This was a huge success, just as it had been on the east coast starting a few years earlier.
