TransWest Airways | McDonnell Douglas MD-90 | 1996-2010

During the 1990s, TransWest ordered the MD-90 and MD-95 as part of an agreement with McDonnell Douglas to replace its ageing MD-80s. Although the airline had already begun transitioning to the A320 aircraft, McDonnell Douglas' aggressive bargaining with the airline led the carrier to decide on a mix of aircraft in order to avoid relying on one airframe manufacturer.

Unfortunately, after McDonnell Douglas was absorbed by Boeing and production of the MD-90 was halted, this policy led to significant losses. The MD-90s remained with the airline until 2010, when the last examples were replaced by new-build A320s.
