In 1974, just before its merger with RIAC, British International received two Lockheed L1011 widebody trijets, out of an order of eight. Royal Airways inherited the other six deliveries. The L1011 was planned to be (and was for a few months) used on intra-European routes to increase capacity. Also shown here is one of British International's Tridents, the second largest aircraft operated by the airline after the L1011.
