SunWest Boeing 717-200 (2005 - 2013)

In 1998, SunWest placed an order for over 40 Boeing 717's, making it the launch customer. These aircraft were intended to replace its aging DC-9 fleet. As time went on, this number expanded to about 60 aircraft, finally replacing the final DC-9 on May 24th, 2006. The replacement for this final aircraft also happened to be the final 717 to be produced, N939PH. However, in 2011, it was revealed that SunWest intended to lease off or sell its 717's and switch to an all-737 fleet to reduce maintenance costs. Over the course of the next two years, most of the 717's were sold to Sunchaser, Jetaway, and Californian. On December 30th, 2013, the final commercial flight of a SunWest 717 was conducted from LAS to PHX as SunWest Flight #717 by N939PH. The next day, a ceremony dedicated to celebrating the end of an era for the airline, as the DC-9 family was completely eliminated from its fleet.
