During and after the 2008 financial crisis, demand for air travel decreased, forcing Air Canadien to downgrade the equipment used on many of its routes. While a large number of Boeing 767-300s and -300ERs were temporarily parked, the 30 smaller -200ERs became a favorite on most non-flagship European routes - where they satisfied the demand perfectly - between 2008 and 2011. On flagship routes, such as to London Heathrow, Boeing 747-400s continued to be flown at a loss, with the reasoning behind that decision being that the importance of maintaining the airline's pride and reputation outweighed the damage being done to the bottom line. After demand rebounded however, most 767-300ERs were brought back out of storage, and a retirement process began for the 767-200ER, removing all aircraft of the type from the fleet by 2016.
