In 1997, Air Canadien created a cargo subsidiary, at first operating a fleet of A300B4Fs converted from Air Canadien's A300B4s. In 1998, conversions of the DC-10-40 and DC-9-63 began, expanding the fleet further, and used 747-200Fs were purchased to increase capacity. Air Canadien Cargo quickly became the largest air freight company in Canada, with hubs in Anchorage, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, and Montreal, as well as distribution centers in Tokyo, London, Frankfurt, Dubai, Sao Paulo, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and Memphis.
