Pacific Oriental 747s First and Latest

1979 marked the start of 747 operations at Pacific Oriental with the 747-200B connecting Hong Kong to the world. They could regularly be seen on the spectacular Kai Tak approach.

The 747 has been operated in various forms throughout the years including the -300 and most notably the -400 which saw the closure of Kai Tak and also featured as the final departure fro the airport with the a Pacific Oriental 747-400 leaving for London Heathrow the final time from the airport.

The last -400 left the fleet in 2017 initially without a successor and it was speculated the airline may order the A380 or order additional 777s however, a last minute order was placed for 18 747-8i aircraft intended to operate the flagship routes for the airline and would also debut the new first class suite due to be rolled out across the fleet and features one of the most luxurious services in the world.

Pacific Oriental rose to prominence as one of the world's finest airlines since its beginnings in the 1930s and today operates its own brand of unique Hong Kong service featuring British touches combined with Asian style ones, examples include its locally sourced Chinese green tea service in First and Business class along with its now well known Afternoon Tea service which has been a staple of the airline since the late 1950s.
