Royal Canadian | Airbus A319 | 2018 | operated by Meridian

In 2003 the first A319's have joined the fleet to replace the ageing 737 Classic aircraft as it was the ideal choice for us, we also got a pretty darn good discount from Airbus. The A319 was ideal for transcontinental flights across Canada and into the US from and to smaller airports in our network, this improved connectivity across Canada and allowed Royal Canadian Airlines to expand.

As of May 2018 Royal Canadian has 19 A319's in service however the decision has been made to cooperate with our partner Meridian which will operate 9 of these aircraft for select seasonal and charter flights to the USA and Caribbean, this is because Royal Canadian is lacking trained pilots qualified for the A319, and our codeshare partner Meridian has a surplus of slots and staff. This allows the two airlines to share profits and benefit from improved efficiency.

    Noice!

But I thought Meridian operated only 737's now?

But I thought Meridian operated only 737's now?

Well, it's confusing at first. An Boeing-user airline is using an Airbus plane. meridian has leased Airbus A319 as a charter flight to the Caribbean
