TAESA airlines which stands for Transportes Aéreos Ejecutivos, SA or Executive Air Transportation, SA was one of the first airlines in Mexico to operate on the basis of a low-cost business model. TAESA had one of the most recognizable symbols and aircraft in Mexico’s airspace in the 90s. Mainly it was the yellow color scheme on their airplanes that made them recognizable. The airline ceased operation in the year 2000 after an unforgivable air accident. After failing to revive the airline under a different name (Líneas Aéreas Azteca) in the 2000s and after almost a decade of planning, TAESA is back.
TAESA has been revived as a full-service carrier operating both domestic and international flights in Mexico. They relaunched service in 2015 with brand new, refreshed and contemporary branding, trashing the old yellow color scheme used in the 90s. In addition to new branding and a color scheme refresh, new aircraft were acquired that are equipped with the most modern and generous cabins in the sky. TAESA’s 21st-century fleet consists of MRJ70s, Boeing 737 MAX 7s, Boeing 737 MAX 10s and Boeing 787-8s. TAESA hopes to be aggressive in accessing greater variation when it comes to global routes from and to Mexico, and at the same trying to fill the gap left by Mexicana Airlines in 2010. TAESA’s main competitor will, of course, be Aeroméxico, but it understands that its faith lies on how well it can counteract the low-cost fad with Volaris, VivaAerobus and Interjet.
If you thought Spirit Airlines was the first to use a yellow color scheme on their airplanes, think again.
