transflorida was founded as Trans Florida Air Enterprise, a small regional airline in the summer of 1953, flying DC-3s around the state and to Cuba. Soon, transflorida grew to be the state's largest carrier, with over 20 destinations in the sunshine state and beyond. After launching international service in 1975, transflorida began to shift towards a leisure/holiday type airline and, after a string of bad business decisions, entered voluntary administration in the winter of 1979. The parent corporation of envoy american, Globodyne Industries, purchased the failing carrier and slowly began merging the carrier into envoy's mainline operation, providing envoy with a strong presence in the southern states. On the 25th of July 1982, transflorida flight 82, a Boeing 727-200 service took off from Washington's Reagan National, becoming the last scheduled flight under the transflorida name. When Flight 82 landed at miami, transflorida signage was in the process of being removed at numerous airports. By the 27th of July, the transflorida name became one relegated to the history books, with all signage at the Miami superhub removed, and the last aircraft, N911BD, repainted into envoy livery.
