AeroCalifornia MD-87 (1980-1999 Livery)

Before anyone comments, yes I know there was a real Aero California, this has no link or association with it at all.

Based in San Diego, the MD-87 was introduced to the AeroCalifornia fleet in 1988 as a potential replacement for the large number of ageing DC-9 aircraft making up the majority of its fleet. While the MD-87 proved to be the ideal size it was proven unsuitable for the job and AeroCalifornia elected to order the 737 Classic series instead with the MD-87s departing the fleet in 1995.

    Love the Design :)

Why is it unsuitable for the job might I ask?

Because the MD-87 never really worked as a replacement for the DC-9-30/40s as all they did was shorten the MD-80 giving the 87 a high MTOW and powerful engines so was not the ideal replacement for DC-9s that later came in the shape of the Boeing 717.

Maybe the engines can get some color. Neat!

Me likey, nice to see more of your designs Coco
