Southwest 737 after turn to land

KDCA / National - Gravelly Point, May 2018

I moved up to DC last may and elected to go out to Gravelly Point Park, right on the north end of KDCA / Washington National airport in Arlington, VA with river-crossing proximity to Washington, DC. Aircraft landing at DCA from the North fly low over the park, and it makes for some nice photos. It isn't quite St. Maarten, but it's pretty close.

The airport is interesting because of its proximity to the National Mall in DC; aircraft approaching from the north fly a difficult approach along the Potomac river and turn in for landing at the last second, in between the Pentagon and the Mall. This is the smaller of the Washington metro area's three airports, and the largest aircraft to operate out of here are American's 752s (American has a hub here). International heavies use Washington Dulles (KIAD) and Baltimore/Washington (KBWI).

Images taken with a $100 Canon PowerShot s100 I bought on eBay. It's a good little camera if you want one that can take nice shots on a budget. These pictures are unfortunately not in their original 12.1-megapixel resolution, as I lost the originals and had to rip the copies from my Facebook account.
